Running head: EPIDEMIOLOGICAL EVENT 0 Epidemiological Event – Impact and Assessment For this written assignment, this writer would be identifying an epidemiological event with details of when and where it occurred. The host, agent, and environmental factors related to this event would also be reviewed. This writer would then identify any health disparity along with her feelings and thoughts with regards to this epidemiological event. Overview of Epidemiological Event For the purpose of this paper, this writer would be looking at the Ebola hemorrhagic fever outbreak in Lagos, Nigeria in the year 2014. In that year Ebola outbreak affected “ten countries in the world including the united states infecting about 28,000 people and killing about 11,300 people in the year 2014” (Otu et al., 2017). Ebola hemorrhagic fever was first reported in Germany in the year 1967 while another outbreak began in 2013 in Guinea (El Sayed et al., 2016). A Liberian diplomat who previously cared for a sibling with Ebola disease brought Ebola outbreak into Nigeria (El Sayed et al., 2016). Factors Surrounding The Event Ebola hemorrhagic fever is a highly contagious viral disease that is caused by Filovirus or Ebola virus. The reservoir host for Ebola virus is the African fruit bats and insectivorous bats. The end host of this disease includes apes, man, and other mammals that may be the end host. The route of transmission is via contact with infected animals, infected body fluids, and infected cadaver. Some of the environmental factors that caused and worsened this outbreak include the high rate of travel without taking precautions to screen for passengers with prior contact to an infectious person or body, inadequate funding, manpower, and the lack of experience in dealing with Ebola virus disease outbreak. Health Disparity This writer was able to identify some barriers to providing quality care during the Ebola outbreak in developing countries and developed country. According to the journal by Loignon et al. (2018), Ebola outbreak lasted longer in West Africa compared to when it came into the United States and this is highly due to an increase in human and material resources. Ethical complexity with the use of best practices was also noted to be lacking in the developing country compared with the developed country (Loignon et al., 2018). In developing countries, the policies that are in place for emergency or national responses are poor and not as effective as that of the developed country thus increasing the response time and the spread of the disease. Feelings and Thought on The Event Ebola hemorrhagic disease is highly infectious and should always be treated as a national emergency that requires the prompt response and contribution of the citizens, government, medical personnel, and sometimes help from other countries. This writer believes that developing countries should have emergency funds available in the case of epidemiology such as this. Another important aspect to consider is for community leaders of affected countries to conduct a post-briefing and analyze the effective areas and areas that need improvement. Conclusion In conclusion, this writer identified an epidemiological event with details of when and where it occurred. The host, agent, and environmental factors related to this event were also looked at. This writer then identified any health disparity along with personal feelings and thoughts with regards to this epidemiological event. References El Sayed, S. M., Abdelrahman, A. A., Ozbak, H.
