The pros of collaborative consultation and the co-teaching are: two teachers with diverse backgrounds, two sets of expertise, double the one on one interaction, double the help for each teacher to share the load, extra help with planning, extra help with instruction, the two teacher can also better deal with issues concerning discipline and classroom management. It is the “marriage” of these skill sets that can be so beneficial, however, there could be some potential negatives most hinging on the ability of the teachers to work as a team. If they have any tension the student will be able to see that and they will feed off of that to, causing issues in the classroom.
Building the relationship with teachers and always following through are two tips that I always like to provide to those engaging in collaboration and/or co-teaching partnerships.
What are two that you would offer?
